With Haas confirming they’d ended their contract with Nikita Mazepin just under two weeks before the start of the new season, we knew a driver announcement would be imminent! After all, it is the second lot of pre-season testing this week in Bahrain

👀However, we’ll be honest we didn’t expect this!!

Kevin Magnussen is coming BACK TO F1 🤯

The former Haas driver will be a familiar face with the team, having raced with the team from 2017 until he was dropped at the end of the 2020 season alongside Romain Grosjean.

Overall, K-Mag made 119 starts during his F1 career and spent time racing with McLaren and Renault as well as Haas.

He’ll be replacing Nikita Mazepin who officially lost his seat at the weekend, as a result of the ongoing conflict with Russia and Ukraine. Haas confirmed they had terminated his contract with immediate effect, as well as their title sponsorship with Mazepin’s father, Uralkali.

“I’m delighted to welcome Kevin Magnussen back to Haas F1 Team,” Guenther Steiner, Team Principal of Haas F1 Team said.

“When looking for a driver who could bring value to the team, not to mention a wealth of Formula 1 experience, Kevin was a straightforward decision for us. Kevin’s immediate availability means we can tap into him as a resource for pre-season testing alongside both Mick Schumacher and Pietro Fittipaldi.

“Pietro’s going to be first in this week with half a day’s running at the test on Thursday – that’s a great opportunity for him, with Mick and Kevin doing the rest ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.”
